Pupil Leadership
At Leigh Primary School, we encourage our children to take on different leadership roles and responsibilities within school. We believe that all of our children should have a voice and play an active role in contributing to school life, be it attending meetings, leading subjects with Teachers or leading by example as Prefects. Our Pupil Leaders are encouraged to contribute by making decisions and positive contributions to life at Leigh.
We want to provide our children with opportunities to become lifelong learners, developing their confidence, leadership skills, critical thinking, communication and teamwork abilities so they can learn to use and apply these skills later in life.
Here you can learn about how the different groups make an impact on the school:
Oracy Ambassadors
Our Oracy Ambassadors work in partnership with teachers and leaders to help develop and implement Oracy elements which allow our students to become confident communicators and listeners so that they can understand each other and the world around them. Oracy empowers our children so their voices are heard and they can stand out from the crowd.
Peer Mediators
Our Peer Mediators are trained to help resolve conflicts on the playground. They enable children to have the chance to have their point of view heard and understood and support them to find a solution that works for them. They are supported by our learning mentors and sports coach.
Play Leaders
Our Play Leaders have been trained to organise activities for fellow peers on the playground. They encourage peers to join in games and to extend their friendships.
Reading Ambassadors
Our Reading Ambassadors play a key role in promoting a love of reading across the school. They work alongside the Reading Lead to raise the profile of reading, helping to organise events like World Book Day, and gather feedback from children to ensure that reading initiatives reflect the interests and needs of their peers. Their enthusiasm and dedication make a real difference in encouraging a reading culture throughout the school.
Respected Leigh Councillors
Our Respected Leigh Councillors represent school council and rights respecting agendas. The councillors ensure that children’s rights are being met and links are made to other subjects as well as discussing school council subjects and issues.
Subject Ambassadors
Our children are in teams that represent different subjects across the curriculum. They meet regularly to discuss what is working well and how they want future learning to be shaped.
Year 6 Pupil Leadership Team
Our Y6 Pupil Leadership team consists of Head Boys, Head Girls and Prefects. They meet with the senior leadership team to discuss what is happening in school and make suggestions for school improvement. The Y6 Pupil Leadership team act as role models for other students in school. They lead assemblies, deliver presentations in meetings and show visitors around school.
